Medac Partners with Cape Town Tens Rugby Tournament

Once again, the very best of rugby action will be showcased at the Hamiltons Rugby Club for the Cape Town Tens Rugby Tournament 2012 on February 3 and 4 (Friday and Saturday).

The popular tournament, now in its fourth consecutive year, is the brainchild of former Springbok stars Bob Skinstad and Rob Fleck. Medac/Rockets, the country’s leading manufacturer and distributor of sports injury bracing and performance gear will be the official rehab partner for the event.

This year is set to be bigger and better than ever with the number of teams being increased from 56 to 72 and there will now be four divisions – a heavy and light Beer League, The Vets League and the more competitive Premier League.

As always, there will be appearances many from local and international rugby legends such as Breyton Paulse, Leon Lloyd, John Allen and Malcolm O’Kelly. The tournament will include plenty of entertainment off the field with live performances from top acts such as the UK band, The Lightyears and the popular Cape Town based Me and Mr Brown. There will also be beer and food tents, children’s play areas and lots of fun competitions and giveaways including a kicking contest that will see one lucky winner walk away with a brand-new Golf GTI worth R365 000.

As the official rehab partners, Medac/Rockets will have  physiotherapists which will be on hand throughout the tournament to assist players with recovery and managing injuries including the use of a cryotherapeutic ice recovery pool and providing post-game massages at the Medac/Rockets Recovery Zone.

“The 10’s tournament is a great event to be involved in.  Our recovery tent provides all the players with a world class service of which we are extremely proud,” says Craig Homan, Medac CEO.

LIGHTS, CAMERAS, FASHION!

The third annual Red Carpet Fashion Show, a Red Carpet Concepts production in collaboration with Heat, welcomes 2012 with an elaborately stylish showcasing of some of South Africa’s most celebrated designers and sought after celebrity guests at the prestigious Rotanda in Camps Bay on the 10th Feb 2012.

Having raised a handsome sum of money for the Animal Rescue Organisation during the Red Carpet Fashion Show in 2011, proceeds from the next event will help to raise funds for another charity in need for 2012.

“Our goal is to host a fun and fabulous affair where guests can enjoy a glamorous fashion focussed evening whilst giving something back to charity. My vision for the annual Red Carpet Fashion Show is to combine luxury with a charitable cause,” says Red Carpet Concepts Founder and MD, Jade Allen.

With 12 years’ experience in the local and international fashion and modelling arena, coupled with her passion for PR and events, Allen naturally migrated towards heading up a fashion show brand of her own. “This year is set to raise the bar to a whole new level… we intend to put on a show like no other!”

Red Carpet Fashion Show guests are privy to complementary drinks and canapés all evening, with champagne and oysters on arrival at the exclusive after party taking place at the Sandy B Private Beach Club.  Each guest is set to receive an incredible goody bag, and one lucky guest will walk away with a gorgeous diamond bracelet.

Green office building in Paarl

BKB buys first 4-star ‘green’ office building in Paarl

Cecilia Square, the innovative office building to be built next to Paarl Mall from early next year, now has a 100% owner. Wolf Edmayr, Managing Director of BKB Limited, recently signed the final paperwork to make his company the proud owner of this technology-intelligent environment-friendly development in the quintessential winelands town of Paarl.

Lazercor Developments initially planned to retain part-ownership of this A-grade office complex, but BKB soon indicated that they wanted to buy the entire office space of approximately 4 900 m2.

“We are expanding and simply had to find more space for our Western Cape office. When we received news of this development, we saw the investment potential and decided to buy the entire complex, rather than only the 20% we need at present,” Edmayr explains.
According to Edmayr the spaciousness and contemporary design were important factors, but the ideal location of these new offices played a key role in their decision to buy.

“Situated as it is next to the N1, this will be the ideal base from which to serve our business area, which stretches from the Western to the Southern Cape – to say nothing of the staff’s plans to make the most of their location right next to the Paarl Mall over lunch hours,” he smiles.
There were some other equally compelling reasons for BKB’s purchase, namely the advanced technology and environmental awareness inherent in the design. It is for this reason that Edmayr foresees no problem in renting out the remaining 80% of the office space.

“Our business philosophy is leaning towards becoming ‘greener’, and in that regard this development fits us like a glove – the design is aimed at achieving an international 4-star Green Star rating, which will make it the first green building of its calibre in Paarl. Ant then, of course, there is Cecilia Square’s attractive technology offering.”

Although ‘attractive’ is probably an understatement for this technology-intelligent development, which will feature a single managed high-speed IP backbone for services such as a fireproof data centre/server room, wired and wireless telephony system, VOIP access control and intercom system, state of the art surveillance system, dedicated high-speed internet access, business continuity and disaster recovery through 24-hour building systems management and maintenance, uninterruptible power supply for infrastructure and core network hosting.

Cecilia Square’s ‘green’ rating is based on its design, which is in line with international guidelines around the reduction of carbon footprint and minimal environmental impact. High quality building materials have also been specified for their ability to insulate and complement the energy-saving design of the building. Fittings such as lights that automatically dim or brighten, depending on ambient light, or air-conditioners that automatically switch off when no motion is detected for a certain period will further contribute towards keeping Cecilia Square’s electricity account – and carbon footprint – as low as possible. The technologically advanced design even takes into account the well-being of tenants, with advanced carbon dioxide monitoring and automatic adjustment of air quality.

“It makes so much sense – not only from the perspective of environmental awareness, but also practically, in terms of cost savings. The green design even makes provision for showers and bicycle parking areas – so maybe we should make it a rule that staff members should cycle to work, rather than drive!”, Edmayr teases.

BKB staff members are also looking forward to the move to Cecilia Square, which will probably take place some time during 2013. As one staff member puts it, “We spend a large part of our life at work – so if your environment is attractive and comfortable, it makes a huge difference to your productivity. And the views are something else!”

“I’m just glad they are keeping the old oak trees on the site – it will give the place a bit of a timeless feeling,” another adds.

Clients will not be impacted at all by BKB’s move – quite the reverse. Cecilia Square’s generous parking areas and easy access from the N1 will make it much easier for clients to visit the new offices… and even drop in at the neighbouring Paarl Mall along the way.

Mark Teuchert, a director of Lazercor Developments, is equally excited about this project. “We promised BKB that we’ll start construction early in 2012… and with this office building being our greenest development yet, we can’t wait to see the end result.”

It seems that office space in Paarl will never be quite the same again – and that other business owners may have to brace themselves for staff members badgering them to make the move to Cecilia Square.

Skouspel 2011 – the best ever

The biggest event on the Huisgenoot and Afrikaans music calendar was a celebration of note once again. The two Sun City weekends, which took place from 7 to 9 October and 14 to 16 October, made up the 12th Skouspel and a host of firsts were celebrated.

The most performers ever seen on the Skouspel stage, seven female and 38 male artists, took part in this year’s event at the Sun City Superbowl. This year Coenie de Villiers was honoured for his contribution to Afrikaans music and several artists were assisted by Coenie in performing a selection of his hits – Jennifer Jones, Snotkop and hot band Die Heuwels Fantasties among others.

The year’s Skouspel was made extra special with a range of new elements. Giant screens with thematic videos complemented the mulimillion rand stage, in step with international trends. This was also the first year that dancers formed part of the act.

A range of top fashion designers and design houses took care of the outfits such as Karen ter Morshuizen of Lunar, Stefania Morland, Suzaan Heyns, Diaan Daniels, Heni, 46664, Shaldon Kopman for Naked Ape, Errol Arendz shoes, Klûk CGDT, Hip Hop, Thula Sindi, David Tlale and Joel Janse van Vuuren. Eugenie Drakes of Piece provided the African-inspired jewellery. Designers well known for contributions to previous year’s Skouspel outfits were also there: Kobus Dippenaar, Gert-Johan Coetzee and Dazelle Venter. House of Monatic’s C2 label dressed the men in tailored suits.

Italian singer Patrizio Buanne, the first international star to grace the Skouspel stage, impressed audiences when he sang a few lines of a song in Afrikaans and Nianell launched her first book, Knowing Who I Am, at Skouspel Vrouedag, sponsored by Virseker.

Skouspel was made possible by a range of faithful sponsors:  Checkers, Clover, Virseker, Sun City, M-Net, KykNet and Computicket.

And another first! For those who couldn’t make it to this year’s Skouspel, it will be on the big screen at Ster-Kinekor theatres from 11 November. Call Ster-Kinekor’s ticket line on 082-16789 or go to www.sterkinekor.com for more information. The Skouspel DVD and CD will go on sale at the end of November.
