The International Dragon Boat Festival takes place from 10-12 November 2006 at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. Included in the weekend is exciting entertainment by the popular Lion dancers and dragon dancers.

This ancient, dramatic, colourful, oriental water-sport originated in China over 2300 years ago, and came to South Africa in 1992 when two beautiful ceremonial wooden dragon boats were presented to Cape Town by our Taiwanese sister city.

Itinerary

  • 6th to 9th November – IDBF Race Officials Course & Officials examination
  • 9th & 10th November – International team practice sessions
  • 10th November – Corporate 250m Races
  • 10th November – Corporate Prize Giving
  • 10th November – Opening Ceremony and International captains’ briefing
  • 11th November – International 250m races
  • 12th November – International 500m races
  • 12th November – Closing and Award Ceremony
  • Performers:

    A festival of fun, colour and excitement including refreshments, food and bar, music, dragon and lion dance as well as all the Dragon Boat Races! The Dragon Boat Festival consists of the Opening Ceremony showing the mixed cultures of East and West. South African Dragon Boat Racing Clubs warmly welcome all dragon boaters and new-comers to practice sessions.
