‘Flower Power’ is the theme for this year’s Mother City Queer Project on 18 December 2010. With so much to celebrate this year, including South Africa’s proud hosting of the World Cup 2010 and 150 years of flower sales at the Adderley street flower sellers market, this exclusive event, boasting an intriguing mystery reveal, promises to be even greater and greener than before, with Green Point Stadium as the appropriately chosen venue.

As the first post-World Cup lifestyle event to be held at Cape Town’s fantastic brand new stadium, MCQP organisers have raised the bar right to the top. Party-goers will experience five separate indoor levels and nine entertainment areas that each display a unique sub-theme. With comparisons being made with Sydney Mardi Gras and Rio Carnival, this fabulous event will set the stage for the stadium’s long-term post-World Cup goal of becoming the premier destination in South Africa for sports, cultural, music, entertainment and community events.

Guests are invited to commence their evening in style at the Mercedes Benz, Red Bull ‘Red Carpet’ Entrance, before mingling in the stadium’s various wine bars, non-smoking and smoking lounges, and for our special guests, the VIP Lounge. VIP ticket holders will be treated to full access to all areas, secure parking underneath the stadium, a Mercedes Benz drop off at the red carpet entrance and an exclusive VIP area with its own dance floor, toilets, snacks, bars and entertainment.

With special entertainment ranging from the 70s Dedicated Disco to the ‘Gay Athems’ Caberet dance floor as well as a live bandstand featuring Flash Republic from Johannesburg, whatever your preference in music and atmosphere, MCQP has the night covered. Guests can raise the tempo in the Hippie trance dance floor or even test their vocal skills at the X Factor live stage.
After weeks of buzz and curiosity regarding the ‘Big Reveal’, an exclusive surprise event with a strong gay focus about to take place at MCQP, we can now confirm that guests, celebrities and local and international media will finally bare witness to the very special unveiling of the ‘MCQP Mystery’…

Tickets are available on an early bird special at R180 for general entry and R350 for VIP during the month of NOVEMBER ONLY. Normal pricing resumes in December at R220 for general entry and R400 for VIP and are available from Computicket and selected venues around town.

September is World Tourism Month and Cape Town Tourism is celebrating with the launch of a World Tourism Month mini-site.

The theme for this year is “Tourism – Celebrating Diversity”, and where better to do this than in South Africa’s Mother City, with its reputation as a free-spirited, cosmopolitan melting pot of cultures?

Click here to see Cape Town Tourism’s calendar of World Tourism Month events

“Diversity is one of the driving forces behind tourism and can allow all nations to share the numerous benefits brought about by building stronger ties with other countries. As such, tourism is an undisputed catalyst for building understanding, fostering social inclusion and promoting higher standards of living.

“This type of unity and collaboration is increasingly important as the world comes together to face climate change and ensure sustainable development, particularly in the context of the current economic crisis. These worldwide partnerships allow for a more effective and global response to issues which concern us all.”

World Tourism Day message by Taleb Rifai, Secretary-General a.i. of UNWTO, taken from the UNWTO website.
